For years, I have happily used Firefox (F) with Kaspersky (K) security. Recently, a message from K suggested that I update it which I did. Firefox instantly went berserk and rejected the new K out of hand; it even seemed to think that Google was some sort of den of evil, too!
Now, however, it has calmed down and I can get around via F again. However, every single page or site I request results in the following message appearing at the bottom left of my screen:
Looking up ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com
My computer then takes many seconds to deal with whatever that may mean, which results in an endlessly tedious process. Five minutes-worth of computing takes about half an hour.
As a technoPrat, I'd be glad of any advice on what can be done about this. Cheers

To confirm the previous command text and location of spaces: cmd (space) /k (space) ping (space) ff. kis. scr. kaspersky- labs. com Since the Network Troubleshoot er did not detect any errors and if you are sure you did the previous ping test correctly, the next method to try is to edit / add an entry for ff. kis. scr. kaspersky- labs. com address into the Windows...

As a further test to determine if your computer is successfully looking up and resolving the address ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com try the following:-
- Press and keep holding the keyboard Windows Icon key (usually adjacent to the Alt key) followed by pressing the "R" key. A 'Run' 'Open' window will display
- Into the 'Run' 'Open' window box copy and paste the following command (or you can type it in exactly as shown)
cmd /k ping ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com
- Click 'OK'
A 'Command Prompt' will open to run the command and display the results similar to the following:
Pinging ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com [127.245.107.154] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 127.245.107.154: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.245.107.154: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=128
Is the above a similar display result that you get and if so what is the time= in ms value that is shown ?

Is the above a similar display result that you get and if so what is the time= in ms value that is shown ?
The result of the ping test would indicate that the domain name resolution process on your computer is not locating the ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com address entry, which may be a reason for the slow response that you are experiencing.
If you are still experiencing the issue there a few things to try to fix this.
Suggest that you initially use the Microsoft Windows Network trouble Shooter to try and resolve the lookup problem as follows:
- Goto Windows Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>Troubleshoot problems
- Select the option 'Network Adapter
- Click 'Next'
- Click 'All network adapters'
When the repair / diagnosis process is completed perform the test as per previous post to determine if the ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com name lookup is working ok.
If you are still experiencing the issue there a few things to try to fix this.

If you have recently upgraded to the latest versions of Firefox, 43 or 44 then it now disallows some add-ons and plug-ins, so click on tools then add-ons and see if there are any disabled. It won`t allow WOT, Adbloc plus, or even the Yahoo toolbar now on mine;

As far as I'm aware, Vintager, the only updating that has been done is with Kaspersky. I really don't want to change antivirus as, up to now, this has been the least intrusive one and the most effective that I've found.
PinkyBoyid, thanks for your continued efforts. I've followed your instructions, but the troubleshooter said that it could not detect a problem. Tried the ping thing again, with (possibly predictably) the same result as before. Can I just check - all the spaces in the command thread you told me to type in should be there, should they? Just a thought that maybe there's a problem there? I'm not sure why this would cause a problem with Firefox and not Internet Explorer.

The purpose of this appears to be that as each web page is accessed via Firefox the Kaspersky module injects some additional script code text into the web page, presumably for security verification check purposes.
The injected text incorporates the address ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com, which requires address lookup/ resolution each time.
For some unknown reason your normal network domain name resolution service does not appear to be finding ff.kis.scr.kaspersky-labs.com. So, putting the address into the Windows local Hosts file circumvents that problem. The resolved address resolution now correctly points to a local address on your Computer, thus eliminating slow lookup response times.
