The English isn't terribly good but I managed to figure it out and now my WinMX is working again.
I'm guessing that unless a large proportion of those that were on MX apply the fix (which seems unlikely) then it won't be so good.
If you want TV, Bittorrent is good for current stuff and eDonkey/eMule for older stuff. If you get Shareaza, it handles both protocols as well as Gnutella (which I believe is the basis for Limewire which a lot of folk rate).
Simplified (I hope!) instructions.
1. go to c:winnt\system32\drivers\etc (this is for XP - please see website in my first post for other systems) and delete (or rename) the 'hosts' file.
2. go to http://205.238.40.1/hosts/hosts and 'Save As' into the above directory. Make sure you save it as a text file.
3. This should now enable WinMX to work, but you may need to reboot.
It's true that there isn't as much stuff on but I can still find most of the things I want and with much less queueing!
