Avg Problem

I keep getting a notificatio from AVG to say that my licence registration number is not recognised and to re-enter the licence number in the designated box - I have the free version of AVG and have no idea what (if any) number I had. It says if by re-entering the number doesn't fix the problem then re-install AVG. When I click on the icon for AVG I get the same notification. I've just moved house if that has anything to do with it.
Any help gratefully welcomed (technophobe alert!!!)

It sounds like you've somehow got the subscription version rather than the free version. Use the usual method to uninstall it (control panel > programs & features) and AVG will probably give you the option to switch to the free version.

How long have you been using AVG? Sounds like you have had a 'free trial' offer of the full suite?

There should be an option to downgrade to the free antivrus version only.

bhg481 - have just checked through my questions last year about AVG and it seems I have the paid for version - I thought it was for two years but think I'll ring the shop who installed it to check as it was around this time I had it installed by them.

uninstall it and reinstall the free version.and if your on windows 10 use the default security you dont need anything else

SlackAlice there isn't an option - see my post above about the (possible)two year package I bought. If this is the case then I probably have to enter the number to get the 2nd year - will ring the shop tomorrow.

ivor don't have windows 10 but think I know what I have to do now and am going off line in case I'm not covered - many thanks to all for the help

Just wanted to thank those who tried to help with my AVG problem - computer shop sorted it - apparently there was a corrupt file.
