I bought a 16 GB, 2 GB RAM - Moto G 2015 - 3rd Generation Phone

However it states on the storage screen -

Internal Storage

Total Space - 11.81GB


Available 9.73 GB

Then it lists various things like apps / pictures etc and the storage taken up by these applications .

When you add the Available 9.73 GB together with the other bits ; it totals 11.02 GB , which is near enough to the 11.81 GB

However the phone is supposed to have 16GB - So , where is the other 4.19 approx GB ?

Am i overlooking something

The Android 5 operating system takes up about 5.1Gb of space, which fits very closely with your figures.

Ahhh , i see - i knew there must be a reason

It's the words 'Total space ' that got me concerned

What it means is that it's the 'total space' left after you take off the storage space required for the operating system , from the 16GB
