the relevent device, a usb drive works on my laptop xp home, but gives thefollowing error, This device cannot start. (Code 10) when plugged into my other which has xp pro, don't seem to get anywhere with troubleshooter.

If you go into google and type USB and "code 10" (with quotes) you get loads of hits so you are not alone.

It could be a firewall problem, maybe your firewall is not letting this device attach.

Could also be a driver problem.

Any other problem with your PC, anything written in the message logs ? (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer)

the problem machine is a desktop and just that I get the same error when plugging in a keyboard, know the keyboard works as was using it previously on the same machine
