Talktalk - Connecting Smart Tv

I bought a Samsung Smart Tv a few weeks ago and initially had no problems with it. On Friday my router died - it was an old 3Com model, built like a tank with four ports for Cat cables at the back - none of which I was using at the time. I had an old Talktalk router that I got a few years back when we were having problems with the old router, that I had never actually used. I hooked that up and everything was hunky dory; Smart TV, tablet and two laptops all connected just fine with it.
Meanwhile I had already contacted TalkTalk before I'd realised it was the old router causing connection problems with both WiFi and phone lines. All was resolved when I put the 'new' router in so I rang to tell them I'd solved the problem. They offered me a new router and Youview box and a price reduction for having been a loyal customer. I didn't really want the Youview box, but the router - yes please. They are due to arrive tomorrow
However, this morning I find I can't get the router to connect the Smart TV to the internet. I hadn't changed anything in our setup, but although the WiFi works for tablet and laptops and the TV can get through to the router via WiFi (the router is in the hall, about 2.5 - 3 metres away from the TV), it won't connect from the router to the internet. I've tried resetting the router. I called Talktalk but they didn't seem to be able to help apart from saying the router is old and probably not compatible with the Smart TV - but it worked fine over the weekend.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to try and get things working again please? Hopefully tomorrow the new router will sort things out - but a temporary fix would be great.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - Talktalk say it's my TV, Samsung say it's my router. I've reset the router and also reset the TV to no avail. I've seen from various forums that this is a common problem, or has been in the past, there are a few solutions but none more up to date than last summer. Hopefully problems will be resolved tomorrow when I have the new router.

So - presumably my router has an IP address, as do my 2 laptops, tablet and TV. How fixed are they? I've had trouble connecting my partner's laptop and have to reset the router to get it to connect, but my own laptop and tablet have connected just fine. All connections are via wifi - would having the TV 'hard wired' via LAN solve anything? I think I would need a powerline adapter for that but don't want to get one if I don't need it.
Hmmm this is a good one taichai. I have had a look on line and spoken to a pal, maybe if you don't sort the problem with the new, new router, it may be worth trying a wifi extender in the tv Ethernet port. I know it sounds daft but apparently Samsung although being fine tv sets have a problem that is pretty universal with wireless ip recognition. The extender will work by drawing power from the usb port on the tv. My pal also suggest (although the tv is new) checking if there are software updates available via you tv remote. Menu....Support.....Software Update.
