Has anyone here ever set up a simple webpage for themselves? I'd like to set up a very simple one- just text- for free. (I don't want to use Facebook.) Any links to reliable set-up sites would be appreciated. Thanks

Some hosting companies provide a site builder or have installers for different cms (content management systems) I've used Concret before (not theough my choice) but prefer to use CMS Made Simple

Yes, thanks. I'd been through those but I'm wary about downloading something from a site that might appear to be linked to Google but on closer inspection just seem to be using Google's name to try to make them look trustworthy. I am hoping someone here has actually used a free site builder
Wix

Thanks. Will look tnght
Beware, a free website does not meat it will also be hosted for free.

You need a free website builder and host, most places you will pay for one or the other.

Vistaprint does a free builder and hosting I believe, either free or very cheap.
Some ISPs give you free webspace. Who is your ISP?
Do you want your own domain name?

i.e. fiction-factory.com rather than something like fiction-factory.wordpress.com ?
I used Weebly for my Tai Chi website - very easy to use.
I currently have 2 sites using

freehosting.com

Have had these sites on other free hosting sites in the past

These sites have a proper website name, but the freehosting sites let you use their names

eg. fred.hostingname.com etc.

Thanks all. I have plenty to go at here. I used to get free web space with a previous provider but I can't see it with my current ISP. I will follow some of these up. I'm not sure I'd like my own domain name but would want it to have my name/cause featured fairly prominently in the address.
I use one.com

Their web builder is very easy to use.
Go to wix.com and it is a free website builder which is advertised on tv here
