The volume on my speakers has gone rather low even when they are turned right up, any suggestions?

There are volume settings within Windows as well.

See if you have a Volume icon on the task bar at the bottom right on Windows.

Also in Accessories there is an option Entertainment which has a volume control option.

Also utilities like Windows Media Player have their own volume control as well.
