watching films over the net

Is there any way I can sit in bed and watch free films over my laptop direct from the internet? I don't have a dvd player. i don't really want to join a club though i would consider if its a good deal, and they don't have to be new, up-to-date films.  even episodes of tv shows. free would obviously be preferable.

any help at all is appreciated

if you mean streaming movies then the quality would be poor at best
