Pausing on DVDs

Dear all

Very silly question but a friend and I were wondering, if you pause a DVD and leave it paused for some time, does this damage either the DVD or the player?

Don't think so - it would stop after a while like video tapes if there was likely to be damage. They do get quite hot though and I sometimes think that they get out of sync. Anyone notice this?

no, it wont cause any damage unless something is rubbing against it. But this would happen as long as the unit is spinning, which also means it'd get damaged while playing.

Your DVDs will be just fine :)

As wideboy says, doing this causes no damage to either the media or the player. The same goes for CDs as well. I left an album spinning (on pause) in my hi-fi for a whole weekend once because I forgot to turn it off before I left, and neither the player not the disc were damaged in any way.

I haven't sound or lip-synching issues with a DVD since around 2000 for a home player, or since I first purchased a PS2 until it got a firmware upgrade. Aside from that, pausing actually used to fix the sound/video sync problem for me, rather than cause it.

No It wont harm the player or DVD, but it will reduce the lasers longevity.
