You should always sign out, piggynose, otherwise da sistahood can track you down and physically chastise you when you refer to your chick as your bird. :-)

I acknowledge that hc4361 has answered your question. The only thing I can add is to say.....'public computers' will include Libraries, Works/offices, and
Friends.

A lot of people seem to be under the impression that if you don't sign out, you remain connected in some way. What actually happens is that when you sign in, a cookie is placed on your computer to say that you are logged in, and when you sign out, the cookie is deleted. So if you fail to sign out, all that happens is that the cookie remains. This is why:
1 - It's important to sign out on public computers.
2 - if you delete your cookies, or run some kind of clean-up program, you'll need to sign in next time, even if you didn't sign out.
