the lead to my apple ipad has stopped working. if i wiggled it it came back to life briefly. is there anyway i can repair it or do i have to get a new one. only had this lead 6 months.
having to use laptop which is so slow it drive me mad.

Could it be the connector on the iPad that needs fixed?
A computer repair shop will give you an opinion on it.

I've had a number of iPhones, iPods and iPads over the years, and the thing that seems to go first is the power cable. Was is an Apple cable or a third party job? If you got it from Apple, you can arrange to take it back and they will give you a replacement. You don't need a receipt because they can look up the serial number of your iPad and confirm the date of purchase.

ive had the ipad about 4 years now. i had to replace the cable abput 6 months ago.
i have ordered replacement cables from ebay so will see what happens when they arrive.
i feel like i have lost an arm!

Hmm...it's likely that your cable isn't from Apple. That's a shame. I can't think of any other solution other than bearing with your slow laptop, and looking forward to getting a new cable (or maybe two, in case the replacement dies again).

One other question...did your current cable fray at the point where the lead meets the 'male' connector?

there is no visible sign of fraying or a break at all. that is why i was so surprised when it went off tonight. the replacement was definitely an apple one.

I have a neighbour who has two iPads, the first one about two years old, the second less than a year old. In that time I have bought for him something like eight leads - although he is undoubtedly less than the most careful owner, I conclude that that these things are a design weakness.

karl, i was very surprised at the sudden demise of my leads. they were apple brands and i was hoping for a lot longer life. the end came so suddenly. yesterday it was fine. today it wasnt.

I don't think some of these small connectors are that robust. My Samsung mobile uses a mico USB for charging/data. I thought issues connecting were due to the handset as there is a small crack in the case near to the socket, and various chargers were having issues staying connected. But then I discovered another phone had the same issues with the same chargers so I've no clear idea where the problem lies. Oh for the days when handsets were designed with a robust dedicated charging socket.

I'm pretty sure the leads have a 1 year warranty, check the small print :-)

dont have any paperwork now. i have bought a pack of 5 for £4.95 and free pstage from ebay. arriving on Wednesday. So have to put up with the slow laptop. thanks for all help and advice.
