Your post is a bit unclear. If you are using the tablet in the house, it will connect to you WiFi, so not clear why your question is titled "Phone Tethering".
Or do you mean that you have set up your cellphone as a mobile hotspot and are using the tablet when out and about?
Also, it's not clear when you say you have unlimited data whether you mean on your landline or on your cellphone.

i have no wifi at home ,am using phone as a hot spot ,my contract on my phone is 250 mins phone 500text and unlimited internet(i think } am not up to speed on computor jargon ,sorry
Well, if you have unlimited Internet, then using your phone as a hotspot is gonna cost you nothing. BUT, if I were you I'd double check with the provider, because I've never seen an advert for unlimited cellular data in the UK.
Have you got your tablet set to 'download only when connected by wifi'?

What make and model is it? What download speed do you get on your phone?
As the tablet is connecting to the phone via WiFi, the "download only via WiFi" setting shouldn't make any difference.
TheChair, you may well have not seen an advert for unlimited cellular data in the UK, but they do exist. I have a 3 contract called "The One Plan" which provides exactly that service as well as texts and minutes in the thousands.

The tethering provided has allowed me to access the web during my four UK canal holidays this year alone.

Regretfully, 3 have phased the contract out which is why I'm reluctant to change my HTC M8 for a more recent phone.
3 does an 'all you can eat' data plan for £23, with 30GB a month available for tethering
