Can anybody tell if it is possible to load some music onto my iPhone 6, without having to go via itunes ?

I think ipPones are super-duper, but itunes is a complete mess...every time I use it, I lose stuff that is loaded on already.

Try copy trans control centre - several programs that lets you manage tunes including those from Itunes without using their software.
