How are you signing out??
I regularly sign in and out of hotmail, as I have several accounts and I've no problem whatsoever.
The reason that people have problems with Hotmail (a.k.a Outlook) is because it's from Microsoft and therefore automatically guaranteed to be c-r-a-p!!!

See if this helps

and then (when you give up trying anyway) get yourself a decent email account:

(You can use the 'mail collector' facility to get your Hotmail messages automatically forwarded to your new account).

hi Chris, i tried to take yr advice, but its impossible, why? when trying to use the mail collector service, they wont recognise my yahoo account details!! to sign in. Any advice?
Been with Hotmail for years and never had a problem.I never sign out though. Why do you need to sign out? I just leave it and log back in with my password.
Question Author
maybe chris can answer that one, was told by somebody that its a security risk if you dont sign out.
When you follow the instructions in 'How to Create a Mail Collector' here, and click on 'Save'. what happens?
https://help.gmx.com/en/email/settings.html
I never sign out either, ever. I can only see it as a risk if someone else was using your PC or if you used an internet cafe type place to access your mail.
The risk from not signing out is largely a theoretical one. Unless others have access to your home PC, the main risk would be if you had a mobile device (such as a laptop) stolen, enabling the thief to access your email.

The risk of someone who hasn't got access to your computer (/phone/tablet/etc) being able to access your email if you don't sign out is actually extremely low.
I never had a problem with hot-mail until they made changes, and dont know why they have the e-mail 'block', as it never works, neither do my smileys.

I took Chris's advice and have GMX now, but keep hot-mail for old contacts.
I never sign out of anything as I would not be able to sign in again, having forgotten most of my usernames and passwords. No one has access to my laptop apart from me so I feel quite safe. For the same reason I never clear cookies.

chris, i'll go through the rigmarol again,
catch you soon
Question Author
chris, gmx insists on having your hotmail account details, but refuses to recognise when i enter them.
I'm confused!

Have you created a new GMX account (which definitely doesn't require details of any other accounts)?

Have you then followed by the procedures in 'How to Create a Mail Collector' and, if so, what error message do you actually see?
Question Author
sorry for the delay, as i see it chris, in order to get the mail collector working you have to follow a procedure, which is to give them your personal details from that account which happens to be hotmail, so are you saying i'm doing it all wrong?
I've never had a problem with Hotmail and I always log out from my work computer.
Piggynose:
What I'm saying is that the first thing you need to do is to get yourself a GMX account, totally separate to anything to do with any existing accounts which you may have. (Choose a totally new account name, such as '[email protected]' and a new password, such as 'oink123oink')

Then you can log into that account and set up the 'Mail Collector' facility to divert mail from your 'old' account(s) into your GMX one. (You can choose whether such mail goes straight into your GMX inbox or to a separate folder dedicated to mail from your old account. You can also choose whether to leave a copies of diverted emails at your old email facility or have them automatically deleted from there).

It's still unclear to me as to whether:
(a) you've set up a new GMX account;
(b) you've then tried to configure the 'Mail Collector' facility ; and, if so,
(c) what error message you're actually seeing.
Question Author
chris, as i said at 20.34 yesterday, i get to (b) then hot a brick wall, they insist on your other email address+password, but refuse to recognise my password, even tried another with the same result!!
Are you still logged into Hotmail on another device? The Mail Collector uses 'POP3' (rather than 'IMAP') to function and only one device at a time can access a POP3 account.
