Please don’t be offended by what I am going to ask but have you cleaned it? I have found that the buttons can get sticky and then they stick in or won’t press in...I would give it a through clean and try new batteries before writing it off.
It is a common problem with remotes stpeter. The buttons most frequently used become non responsive due to a carbon build up between the graphite stud which is on the rubber pad under the external buttons and the pcb inside the handset. I have found that you have to open up the handset by splitting it with a sharp blade to gain access to the rubber pa which holds all the contacts and then clean all the little studs and the pcb shiny contacts with switch cleaner. A tip, when you split the handset take care that you put all the loose plastic labelled buttons back in the right location if you inadvertently spill them (I took a photo on my phone) . Couple of links here may help.
