I have tried twice to install Google Earth on my computer, but each time after installation has been carried out, when I click on the icon to load it, this message pops up.

Google Earth. Exe.

Entry point not found.

Could anyone tell me why this is please?

Various checks to start with:

- what windows version are you running?
- Does the problem occur for any other program on your computer?
- Did any error messages pop up during the installation?
- Have you been unable to run the program through all the icons?
- Have you restarted your computer at all since the installation?

I'm sure I could ask a few more, but the first two are key to start with.
Oh, I suppose I should also add, what version of Google Earth are you trying to install?
do you need the full monty? Just using regular Google maps (from the Google home page) will give you a lot of it, including satellite view and street view.
Like Jim, I'd find it helpful to know a few more details.

However the following is worth a try (and certainly can't do any harm) because 'Entry point not found' is known to be associated with a corrupt version of the file Msvcrt.dll, and this stands a good chance of fixing it:

Click 'Start'.
Type 'cmd' into the box.
'cmd' will then appear (under 'Programs') above it.
Right-click on that entry.
Select 'Run as administrator'
If you're asked for permission to proceed, grant it.
In the window that opens, type 'sfc /scannow' (NB: There's a space after 'sfc')
Hit 'Enter'
Wait until the process has been completed. (It might take some time)
Restart your computer.

Thanks for your answers, I am using windows XP

It seems now that Firefox comes up as my home page where before it was Google can they be connected?
I should probably have looked here before posting in the other thread.

Anyway -- in the first place, did you try Buen's suggestion already, and has it had any effect?

Secondly, try the following. I am assuming that you are probably just downloading the latest version of Google Earth (I don't think the browser is an issue, but if you like you could try to force Chrome to open and work through there, and then try again separately in Firefox or another browser). In that case, there may be an issue that developed because of incompatiblity with the latest version of Google Earth. So try to get an older version -- the oldest available through the site is 6.2.

From the following link:

https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en

- click on "download a Google Earth Direct Installer" (NOT the Pro option below)
- click on "v6.2 for Windows"
- Run the application, following the usual rules for downloading and installing (ie hit Run/ Yes to permissions, and so on)
- When the installation has finished (should take around 2 minutes or so), try running the program.
- Let me know if it works, or if you get the same error message.

Note that if this version *does* work then it will be out-of-date and won't receive any further updates. On the other hand, if you have got it working you can then try repeating the steps above for the more modern version v7.1.5.1557 , and test that as well.

Let me know how this option goes. If it still isn't working please try Chris' suggestion (again).
