Hi,

Just bought a pair of 250W PA speakers.

Do I need a 250W or 500W amplifier for them.

Cheers

You will need 250w per channel...make sure the rating is matched either for r.m.s...peak....or peak to peak ratings.
Your HiFi amplifier will have two power amps, one per speaker. That'd be 500W (plus whatever the amp uses) in total, but only 250W to each speaker.

As folk above have pointed out, HiFi amps tend to be rated as so many Watts per channel. Make sure you know what power you you are checking. There is a difference between RMS, music power, peak, etc..
