When I take photos on my iPhone, they also go onto My Photo Stream. Only 1000 pics are stored at any one time on there. Any idea what My Photo Stream actually does? Is it sending the photos to my iCloud and how can I find out? I am tempted to remove my Photo Stream as I have so little space left on my phone, but worry that it may mean losing photos I wanted to keep!

Photo stream sends your photos to iCloud. You will also have 'Camera Roll' where the same photos will appear. Your 'Camera Roll' is your main file for photos. If you delete a photo from 'Camera Roll' it is gone forever. Just turn off 'Photo Stream' in Settings > Photos & Camera >. And all your photos will still be in 'Camera Roll'. Check you iCloud to see what is...

Thank you. So I guess what I am asking really is- if I turn off my photo stream, will I risk losing any photos? Are they being sent to the iCloud automatically, and therefore will they stop being sent if I turn it off? If I do keep it off, will it make any difference to my iPhone space?
You will not lose any photos by turning photo stream off as they will be still be in your camera roll. They will not be sent to iCloud if you turn it off. Not sure on how much space you will save.
