Allcast Dongle

Good Morning,
i purchased a allcast dongle thing from ebay. It is connected to the TV, you then set it up from your mobile phone and it " mirrors" anything on the phone, such as youtube and photos etc. The instructions for set up seem to have been translated into English by a chinaman, so after several hours of attempting the set up, and going on google, it will not work. I can get it to the final screen, it then says it is connecting, but just returns a message saying what type of connection it is doing or has done.
So the unanswered questions are>
do i need an app to run it?
how do I access the set up so i can choose " Android"?

This definitely isn't my area of expertise but it seems obvious to me that the dongle can't know what your phone is meant to be sending it unless there's a relevant app on the phone:

If you continue to have problems a link to the relevant eBay page might help us to better understand exactly which device you're referring to in your question.

ive got cast on my andriod but tv cant find it as thats got screen mirroring,not that i use it but i can connect the tv with mobe when using the you tube app on both tube
i would need "chrome cast" to use my mobe for what you need it for
not sure whether "all cast" is the same
