Hey, I just bought a new windows media edition pc, but everytime I try to play a home made dvd or cd on it it says i have inserted a blank disk. I only have one disk drive and it is DVD-RW drive, is this the problem? Can anyone help me find a solution?

Not sure if its the same thing as mine, I have a DVD and DVD-RW drive, the DVD is finee, but the DVD-RW will not recognise any CD's whatsoever and keeps giving me the message as yours does IE - Blank disc - I checked this out on several forums and was told there are sepparate CD and DVD lasers in the drive and the CD one was probably faulty - maybe you could have a similar problem? Does it show anything if you go into Windows explorer and check the Drive contents, mine will for a DVD but not for a CD - if it does show up under WIndows explorer then theres a possibility the disc could be the culprit.
Good luck

Thanks for replying, I checked and it only notices disks that I have bought from a store, disks such as ones my teacher gave me with work on them, or audio cds my friends gave me are not recognised, I was thinking about getting the disk drive from my old PC changed over onto my new one? Its a plain disk drive and I think that may work?
