It's Not too late to remove AVG. However,it is important Not to have more than one Anti Virus programme because they will conflict with each other and could cause serious problems.
Hans.

I changed my woman's PC AV from AVG to Avast a while back. Not because it was slow but because of continual ads extolling her to move to their paid version. The hassle of closing windows, some half off the screen and unmovable, was not worth use of their product. Decided some idiot must have been promoted to a position where they could ruin their free version.
AVG was still scanning at 2oclock this morning when I closed it down and went to bed. I'm completely in the dark with all this stuff. just trying to type on here is slow at the moment and don't know if its anything tp do with having AVG or (as has been suggested on my other thread below) because its a new lappy and windows 10 can be slow while updating. Also keep getting a 'pinging' sound like theres a notification or something but theres nothing there.
Any help/suggestions appreciated
Thanks guys

just had an AVG notification telling me that AVG has done a full computer scan and the pinging noises have stopped so presumebly they were linked.
Still puzzled about the internet security scan taking so long tho.
Its also speeded up a little. Might have to do as suggested and uninstall AVG and try Avast.

Right Nails Yo can go into Update and security a number of ways but I will show you the "novice" method.
Firstly have yo got the little 4 pane window icon bottom left on your screen? and the windows key on your keyboard again bottom left? Ok.
Pressing the key or clicking on the icon should bring up a little set of icons, one of which is circular and looks like a little cog.
Click on that cog icon.
You now have a menu scroll down to the bottom set of options Update and security.
Click on it and you have a list on the left. The top one is Windows update status and Update settings.
You can force through updates by choosing "check for updates" or you can set when it automatically updates by choosing advanced options and then set you own parameters. You can also have a look at change privacy options whilst you are there and by using the toggles set your own. I have the top five in that list to the right or on position.
Now after looking in there. You need to go back (use the arrow top left next to settings) until you get the list that shows Windows Defender, with a shield logo next to it. left click.
Switch on real time protection with the toggle. ( I have the other two toggles switched to on.
Then click on the grey box "open windows defender"
That gives you scan options in the "Home" menu. Quick scan takes about 10 minutes full and custom scans can take an hour(depending on pc and internet speeds.
If you choose"Update" from the Defender menu it will check for and install security updates.
If you choose "History" from the menu it will allow you to check for any threat that you have inadvertently let in and remove it.
Just keep asking Nails if you need more. Yo can also right click the windows 4 pane icon(bottom left of screen) and this gives a different menu not unlike the old w7 menu.
