Touchpad And Mouse Problems On Laptop

I have these problems, no matter whether I'm using touchpad or mouse
1. Cursor "freezes" and vertical bar appears on screen whilst its frozen
2. It automatically does things I don't want - opening files, zooming in and out - without my having clicked on those options
