I am running Windows XP and from time to time the computer seems to freeze and does not respond to mouse or keyboard. I get error message -Request to end 16 bit task has timed out. Win16 subsystem may be unstable. I would appreciate any helpful advise - not too technical

Are you running any programs at the time ?

Windows is now 32 bit (win32) and Win16 is 'old code', are you perhaps running an old game or other old program at the time.

Have you installed an old program on your PC ?

Question Author
Yes I have installed a financial program that I have successfully run on other PCs. Downloaded latest version from Internet so should be up to date. Only other old programs recently installed are Sunday Times crossword Programmes, but these are allworking OK.
