You've not told us which version of Windows you're using. These suggestions refer to Windows 10 must most of them will probably work in earlier versions of Windows:

Could be located off the screen area.
Have you tried right clicking on the bar at the bottom of the screen and cascading the windows ? Must be worth a try.

THX Guys Windows 10 No luck with either answers,Cascade does not show Windows Explorer at all I tried all the ones in the link
Method 1 set at 100% 2 Not got AVG and not noticed any icons missing (yet) 3 Went thro it to run new task and message "Windows cannot find explorer.exe" 4 Windows and X brings up file explorer but right click does not bring up quick access options or anything. Stumped P.S File explorer shows when I hover over it

Just another thing if I click on something on the task bar when I move the cursor onto the screen it goes off
Press the Windows key (or click Start).
Type explorer.exe into the search box.
Does 'explorer' appear in the results area above it?
If so, does double-clicking that entry open File Explorer?
If it does, repeat the search and then right-click the entry in the results panel in order to select 'Pin to Taskbar'

If that doesn't work, can you open File Explorer via any of the methods suggested here?

(If so, which ones?)
Clutching at straws here but..
If you find windows explorer in the task manager and restart it, does that help ?

Come to that, if you find file explorer in task manager and stop all existing instances of it, then retry, does that help ?
