Had a message come up on my phone about my battery being damaged ( words to that effect ) and to download xxx to repair ( words to that effect )

I did and it is something called ' turbo cleaner ' - i stated to run it but then stopped it .

Is running this 'turbo cleaner ' ok ?
Is it likely that there is a problem with my battery ?

Looks legit - assuming this is what you downloaded :

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.turboc.cleaner&hl=en_GB

It can't 'repair' your battery (even if it is damaged), but it can reduce the load that the phone is putting on it - by deleting unnecessary background apps and managing screen brightness etc.
... and yes - the ads may be a pain ...

ok thanks

But why would this suddenly appear sort of randomly .
I could understand if it was something that i had to pay for - however it was free to download ?

Uninstall it.
An advert triggered by another app?
Baz, anything like that comes up, Delete.
Spam for mobile phone users. You wouldn't have allowed it to run on a pc or laptop Bazile. I would do as hc advises and uninstall it, you will get bombarded and possibly be paying for the privilege.
Sounds like spam ads to me. I can see if I can block it. I hope you didn't install it?
This assumes the message came up while browsing the web?

ok thanks all
No it's not likely there's a problem with your battery. You've been conned. Phones don't magically self-diagnose problems and then get you to install apps.
