I took mine back to the shop (PC World) and obtained replacements (no hassle) about four or five times and eventually went for a Buffalo set up instead and it works absolutely great. I think the Belkin stuff is just Kr4p and the shop realise this. The tecchie guy said that only about one in six actually work and even then give up the ghost after a short while, and he advised me against buying any of their stuff in future.
Other settings to check are SSID broadcast on the router. If this is disabled, then you won't pick the network up automatically and will need to know the network name and channel number and put them manually into your USB settings.
The IRQ has nothing to do Wireless connectivity,
IRQ ( Interupt ReQuest line ) is a
hardware / peripheral operation.
Connectivity, You need to browse to the Router.
Firstly, Connect your router to the PC with a
cat 5 cable ( wired ), Set the PC on
autodiscover (DHCP) which will give it a
valid IP Address ( assuming the router has
DHCP Server enabled ).
Your Manual will tell you the default IP
for you router.
When connected browse to the router
eg http://<routerIPAddress>
login with the username and password supplied
in the manual (Default).
Go to the Wireless section on the router
and make sure MAC filter / Access control
and WEP are switched off.
If DHCP is not enabled by default set the
following IP address on the
PC <WhateverTheWirelessRouterIPAddressIs+1>
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway <WhateverTheWirelessRouterIPAddressIs>
DNS <WhateverTheWirelessRouterIPAddressIs>
That should Be OK
Also Make a note of the Wireless SSID
and use that with the PC Wireless Kit.
Disconnect the wire and try the
Wireless connection
