mine seems to take hours and often doesn't get to 100%.
It had a new battery months ago so it shouldn't be that.

i didn't intend getting a smartphone, it just sort of happened. One day i had a Nokia, then a Samsung smartphone, it does what i want, so i guess apart from the charging i'm happy with it
Mine is a smartphone but it does have the latest battery technology.
Question Author
i have unplugged it and plugged it back in again for good measure.

About 1½-2 hours for 100%
Motorola X Play.
What I meant was emmie if thew plug or cable is damaged, plugging it in and out again won't make a scrap of difference.

It depends on the charger. Plus the daft idea to use the micro USB data port for charging seems to ensure that after a while some (possibly all ?) start to fail from the continual plugging in and pulling out. Could try a new charger/changer lead, and see if it helps. Or ensure it doesn't need pushing forward to get it to connect properly.
I have a Samsung S6 and one of its best features is it charges to full from empty in about 30 mins. There must be something wrong, especially if it rarely reaches 100%
