A letter from Virgin Media today tells me I can automatically connect to nearly half of all UK public WIFI hotspots for free with their WIFI app.
Is it worth bothering with?

If you're out and about a lot and need wifi, it could be useful.
If you are using the Internet out and about yes. I use BT hot spots regulary.
Having looked at this

the app doesn't seem to be offering anything which isn't available to everyone for free anyway (such as free wifi at Tube stations, bars, restaurants, etc) except that you might not have to go through the login procedures with the first time that you use each service.

Unlike BT's system (where all of their customers have Home Hubs which broadcast a secondary signal that's available for use by any other BT Broadband customer), Virgin Media's offering simply uses the public wifi available on the High Street anyway. Don't want the Hub you use to join our WiFi network? No problem. To opt out, simply let us know by registering or signing in to your

Apart from looking at my phone when I'm having a coffee in my local cafe I rarely use wifi. I suppose this app would save you from having to ask a waiter/waitress what the password was. It hardly seems worth the bother to download it.
