I'm thinking of buying one on ebay but I heard that they had to be registered to a specific pc. Does this prevent them being used elsewhere? If it was nicked and had been reported stolen am I going to get in trouble for linking it to my pc?
And.... my gf wants one too. Can we have both ipods getting their music from one pc?
Thanks!!

I'm not sure about the linked to a specific pc but what I would say is if you are buying from Ebay I would be very careful because recently mp3 players/mobile phones/ laptops etc have been advertised on "hijacked" ebay accounts. If it looks too good to be true then it normally is. Do not reply to any email other than "ask seller a question".
To stop music piracy, there is a fair use policy in force for itunes whereby it can be linked to up to 5 different computers and no more without having being deautherised on a previous pc. To answer your question then, the answer is no, you wont get in trouble and both you and your girlfriend can use both your ipods on the same pc music collection.

As a secondary note, as mentioned above be very careful with ebay - I've just been suckered out of 500 by a highjacked account and there is not a darn thing I can do about it. If you are going to use ebay then I would recommend that you get a home address and telephone number of the seller (not a mobile) and speak to them on the phone before sending any money. Also think about using paypal where at least there is some rudimentary protection if things go wrong.

You won't get in trouble for linking a stolen iPod to your pc, but you should try your best to get one that isn't nicked!

You might like to look here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/

You'll be able to use the iPod on your computer, but you will lose any songs already on it from the previous owner (possibly not a bad thing), as your pc will now be the iPod's 'home' pc. I don't think there should be a problem with using 2 iPods with one computer; the main issue is with using one iPod with more than one computer. Anyway, i'd look at the Apple site if i were you. There are some extremely helpful discussion forums on there - your question has probably been asked and answered comprehensively in one or other of the iPod related ones!

I've just bought a new computer (a Mac, but I assume it would be the same with a PC) and I have had no problems using my iPod with the new machine. I don't remember having to register my iPod to my computer.
