Leaving A Fridge Standing Upright Before Switching It On

There is conflicting advice as to how long to do this after fridge has been transported on its back. My larder fridge (secondhand) is six feet tall and was transported 40 miles yesterday. Any advice welcome.

No expert, but I would suspect it didn't matter much. I'd give it maybe half hour to settle. I'd be surprised if it failed to work properly regardless.

They do say to leave them, fridges and freezers in an upright position for 24 hrs before switching on. Don't know if it's applicable to the new cfc free ones or the old refrigerant ones.
Gives the liquid part of the gas to settle.

I left mine for a day....just in case. I had another fridge though.

The advice is too leave it upright but not turned on for the refrigerant gas to settle back in the compressor. Some say it should be left overnight , I would leave it upright for a few hours before turning it on again.

Generally, letting the gas settle for 4 hours should be sufficient. If you do not have a user guide which should tell you - why not visit the manufacturer's web site. You may need the Model/Serial No.

Years ago I used to install them and was instructed to tell the customer to let it stand for 24 hours. We were also told (by all manufacturers) that if that was not possible ie, the old one had broken down and it was an emergency, to just go ahead and switch it on after giving it a quick wipe inside.

We had a new fridge/freezer delivered this morning and were told not to switch it on for 4 hours.
