Opening A Download

I can't open a download that I've saved on a (fairly) new computer. What am I doing wrong ? When I click on 'open' there's a momentary flicker in the background but nothing else. TIA

You scanned it for viruses first ? It's from a reputable source that you chose to visit ? Maybe you have a resource issue, try a reboot. Or maybe your account doesn't have the right administrative level to run it. If so you'd need to change it.

It's a list of bank statements OG, I've just pulled them up from online banking and I need to print them out.

Are you trying to open a pdf file that you can view?
Are you using Adobe reader or some other file reader?
If you are using Adobe. Open Adobe reader and uncheck the web integration checkbox.
You could also try looking for ACR*.TMP files and deleting them.
You perhaps need to tell us which browser you are using and which operating system. W10?

If they are .xls or .txt files you should be able to open them. What file extension do they have ?

Thank you both. When it asked me how I would like to download the file it gave me 4 options, none of which I had heard, so I chose 'ofx' I'm running on Windows 10 and have been trying to open the file using IE (which gives me the results I have described )

Another point is that if you can view pdf files but not print them it may be an issue with your printer printing a pdf file..... On your computer, if you open the downloaded and saved pdf file version of your statement and can then view it normally on your computer you may need to alter the printer settings. This is all of course only relevant if your statements are contained in a pdf file.

Open Financial Exchange is a data-stream format for exchanging financial information that evolved from Microsoft's Open Financial Connectivity and Intuit's Open Exchange file formats. Microsoft, Intuit and CheckFree announced the OFX standard on 16 January 1997. The first OFX specification, version 1.0, was released on 14 February 1997. The specification allows for bank- and application-specific extensions, although only a subset is necessary to describe a financial transaction.
Does your bank give the option of downloading it in CSV format if you are unable to access the OFX file.

If you are using Microsoft Excel (in Office) as a file reader and installed on new W10 computers, it can be set to convert OFX files.

1.. Launch Excel, click "File" and select "Open."
2.. Click the "All Excel Files" drop-down menu and select "All Files."
3.. Navigate to the location of your OFX file, select the file and click "Open." An Excel prompt reporting that the OFX file is a different format will display. Simply click "Yes" to continue.
4.. Select "As an XML table" and then click "OK." An Excel prompt notes that a schema for the table does not exist but that Excel will generate one for you based on the data. Simply click "OK" to continue.

Did a quick Google for .oxf and it looks like you need one of a number of specific programmes in order to be able to open it. https://fileinfo.com/extension/ofx In your shoes I'd consider trying again and selecting an extension you (and your PC) are more familiar with.
