Pairing Tv And Laptop Via Hdmi

Trying to connect a laptop to a tv to be able to watch Netflix on it using an hdmi cable . Tuned the tv to hdmi mode (both laptop & tv have one hdmi port) .
The laptop does not detect the tv , i have tried changing the resolution on the laptop but still nothing .
Any ideas please ?
