When I put my new laptop on in the morning, it can take 5 mins before I am asked for my password. I always close down properly before I switch off at night.

You need to see how many and what programs are in your start up folder - they will all delay the boot sequence and only some will be essential.
^ change that to 'Very few will be essential'
how does one do that please, i have similar problem, thanks.
What is your OS, SP?
msconfig will give you info.
Type it into a DOS box.
if you download "cc cleaner" free, as well as other things you can click on start up it will show what's starting up when you switch on and you can delete what you dont need or disable them
No need to download software for such a simple thing.

If you are using windows, open the task manager and click the 'start up' tab.

If you see something you know that you don't automatically need to open at start up, highlight it and click 'disable'.
