World Service short wave transmissions are now limited to just a few specific target areas but you can sometimes pick them up elsewhere in the world:

The BBC World Service in particular is retransmitted on local FM and sometimes on MW in a wide variety of countries, although sometimes only at limited periods per day (but the schedule repeats in 8-12 hour cycles daily or else individual programmes are repeated within a week). I believe the BBC will inform you at what frequency and what times this can be found wherever you expect to travel - or else that there is no local retransmission available there. Quite a few years ago I simply phoned them - but I seem to remember that, oddly, they doubted that they had a comprehensive record of all retransmissions/relays and they wouldn't send me a full list of all they knew of.

However Tenerife isn't short of English language radio stations!
Coast FM broadcasts in English, with news bulletins supplied by Sky News. (102.5Mhz & 102.8MHz).
Spectrum FM is also in English, on 105.3MHz.
Another English language broadcaster is Oasis FM on 101.0Mhz and 101.2Mhz.
Yet another station in English is Oasis FM, on 98.2Mhz.
