Obvious I know but you have checked that the lens is clean?
it should focus if you tap the screen.
Question Author
Cleaned the lens. No better. I know Zacs, but if I tap the screen it doesn't focus and it looks darker.

Tried all that Bazile. Nobody got any "hacks" ( I hate that word)
One solution is to press and hold the camera button, and wait until the camera is focused. When the picture becomes clear, let go of the button.
Can you not get a workshop to check it/service it ?

Tried that Jomlett. No go. I wonder if Apple is having a problem. And, dammit, I canceled my insurance last month. Mr. Sam suggests a reset. What do you think. It's a bit if a palaver though isn't it?
does the phone have a case? You should try after removing the iPhone case when using the camera. Sometimes, the case is the reason why the iPhone camera won’t focus and as a result, all the snaps are blurry.
Fix 1: Tap the iPhone

Use the palm of your hand to tap the top of the iPhone (rear camera lens end). This method solved so many iPhone users issue.

Fix 2: Press and hold the iPhone camera button

Press and hold the iPhone camera button until the Camera is focused. Release the button when image becomes clear.

Fix 3: Remove the iPhone bumper/ case

Remove the iPhone bumper or metallic case when you using iPhone camera to take photos or videos. This might cause iPhone camera blurry or wobbly issue.

Also, make sure that the yellow box which your camera is focusing on, is the partof the picture you want in focus. When the yellow box appears, you can tap a different part of the image to be the point that the camera is focussed on.

Tried smacking it. Nothing. If I hold the camera button it goes into "burst" I have taken the case off. Nothing. :(
Force to Turn off Camera App

Another method to fix iPhone camera not working is to turn off Camera app and restart it. Press home button twice, and you will see the background applications. Swipe up the Camera app to shut down it.

Then try again...

Soft Reset Your iPhone is the next option.
Question Author
How do I shut it down Jomlett? The little x doesn't appear on the camera.
Question Author
What is a " soft" reset ? I have no idea
Soft Reset Your iPhone

Rebooting iPhone can easily resolve many glitches, as well as iPhone camera not focusing. To restart your iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake or Power button until the red slider shows up > Scroll and select the option to power off your iPhone > After a few seconds, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until the Apple logo appears.
Question Author
Just tried the soft reset. Nope, still the same. I give up.
Take it to the apple store and they will check and hopefully resolve.
sammy....I have been with O2 for many years, and my local branch has an "O2 Guru", so if you are on an O2 tariff, try them.
