When I leave my mobile on charge at home I am in the habit of taking a spare phone out with me. Obviously the spare has a different number so my question to you techies is, is it possible to have two phones with one number? I am aware that each mobile has a separate SIM card with its own individual & unique number but it would be more convenient to me to be able to share my main number between two mobiles.

No, but you can swap the SIM card. You can't put a bigger SIM card in to a smaller slot, but you can put a smaller one in to a bigger slot with an adapter.
Your phones may use the same size SIM card
No. The SIM has the number not the handset and you can't have two with the same number or the network won't know which your call should go to.

Opens up fraud opportunities too.

You can always swop SIMs.
A solution to your problem Ron might be to use an in-car charger, and use one phone. That way, its only one number for everybody else to remember, and you will always have it with you ( when you are in your car, of course.

I have used iphones for many years now, and its a very rare event that the battery runs out of steam, before I get home at the end of the day. But as I am always near my car, its easy to recharge as-I-go.

Thanks guys. Are you telling me to change the Sim from one to 'tother
That would be my solution.
The SIM change I mean. The power source I've never thought much of. May as well buy a spare battery to carry around instead.
Yes Ron....you could use a powerpack when you are on-the-go, but an in-car charger will be much better, and they are not expensive.

I use an in-car charger for my work laptop, which is very useful on a long day.

You can use a in-car power inverter, which you can use to recharge pretty much anything. It converts 12v to 240v.

Good suggestion FF thanks.
Would it not be better to have all calls forwarded to your spare phone when you go out, I'm sure there's a way to do this in settings although you'd have to remember to switch back and forth. I do this all the time between my desk phone and Blackberry.

You can divert calls from one number so you receive it on the other
Bet you are charged for doing so.
Ron..surely the reason that you are asking this question is that the Mobile phone that you use, is out of order due to its need to be recharged ?

So, the easiest way to combat this is charge the phone, when you are out and about, not to dream up yet wackier ways of using 2 phones, or diverting calls from one to the other, or changing SIMs.

Just go and get an in-car charger, and your problem is solved !

By the way, if you are a light-user of your Mobile, most phones these days last ages between charges
What is the difference with an 'in-car charger' and a a charger?
Talbot...the difference is obvious surely ?

Most chargers that we use today are plugged into the mains and are not adapted for use in a cigar lighter.

But my current Fiesta, only 7 months old, has a USB socket on the dash. so all I need to do is to plug my Mobile directly into that.
So your in-car charger is no different to my not in-car charger.

Most new phones will only need 15 minutes charge to be usable all day (normal few text, few calls use) I'm not sure why you use two phones, Ron.
