Missed my vocation, obviously....... The two TV manufacturers who are at the top of their game are LG and Samsung....I'd choose between these two.

I've never heard of "I don't". Is that what you meant to type?
I don't.....is that Sony?
That's not exactly the clearest of questions, Wendy!

Are you looking for a TV set with a built-in recording facility and/or one which has 'smart' capabilities, including catch-up apps? Is a low price important to you or are you seeking 'top-of-the-range', irrespective of price?

Not looking top range from with but playback included please
Thanks for your response (and for 'best answer').

By 'playback' do mean the ability to record programmes or the ability to access services such as BBC iPlayer?

A bit of general information:

In terms of picture quality, there are basically 4 levels of screen definition available:

1. Standard definition. (SD). Such sets are fine for smaller screens (and people on tight budgets).

2. HD-Ready. Such sets can display pictures from external sources (such as Blu-Ray players and Sky HD boxes) in HD but they don't have a Freeview HD tuner in the, so you can only watch Freeview channels in SD.

3. Freeview HD. As above but with the ability to watch Freeview channels in HD.

4. Ultra HD (or '4K'). The best image quality but expensive and only really worth considering with very large screens.

With the limited information we've got so far though, this is well worth considering (with Freeview HD, catch-up apps and the ability to record to a USB stick):

(It's also from an excellent manufacturer and a highly-respected retailer)
As has already been stated both Samsung and LG have the best reputation for TV quality.

"Which" magazine always has these two as their "best buys"
