When I download various pages, all that appears is a little X in a box. What is the problem, and how can it be solved. Answers in basic terms please.

What browser are you using Scarlet? Chrome, Edge, Firefox? If you are using internet explorer try something else. What is your operating system? W XP, 7, 10?

most likely its asking for flash to be allowed look at the far right of the address bar you might see a red box saying allow flash or allow cookies click on it
