Region 1 DVD

Is there any reason that I shouldn't be able to play a DVD on my DVD player? The player is a normal, I guess cheapier one and is about 3 years old and I have bought a Region DVD from the US.

(Someone told me that they don't work over here so I am just checking!)

To try to reduce piracy most DVDs and all DVD players have a region specified.

A US DVD player and US DVD are region 1, and UK DVD players and DVDs are region 2 and so on.

Normally you cannot play a DVD from a different region on your DVD player.

Note that there are ways to 'unlock' the region control in a DVD player, but it may not be available for yours.

Maybe you can search the web to see if there is any way to unlock the control on your DVD player.

If you can't unlock your player, but have �30 to spare (bearing in mind that you can quite often get discs from other regions earlier/cheaper/with better features than the ones we get palmed off with) do some research on the cheapo models in your local supermarket. Many of these are region-free "out of the box", the only drawback (depending on your sound set-up) is that they are often only 2.1 rather than 5.1 sound.

Sound like your DVD player is reg2 only.

Google "DVD region Hack" most players can easily be hacked to play any region.
