We are sorry to hear the prints from your PIXMA MP220 are very faint.

This may be due to a number of reasons.

We suggest a switch to original Canon ink cartridges, if you are currently using third party compatible ink or refills.

You may also change the print settings to lower the brightness or increase intensity.

Additionally, you may benefit from reinstalling the driver.

Therefore, we recommend you install the latest Canon driver compatible with Windows 8 32 bit. Please note, there are a number of precautions to ensure the driver installation doesn’t fail or become replaced by the Windows driver.

Please follow the instructions listed below to first uninstall the current driver and then install latest driver.

Leave the USB cable disconnected.
Go into control panel (press Windows key + R, type ‘control panel’ into the box), then choose devices and printers.

Remove the device (by right clicking on the MP220 image).
Disable your antivirus and firewall for the duration of the installation
Remove any additional Canon (multifunctional printer, not camera) software
Then install the latest driver (MP220 series MP Driver Ver. 1.01).

Download by clicking on the link included below.

Only connect the USB cable after installation or if the installation specifically asks you to do so.
As an added precaution, please run the installation as an administrator.

Should you require further assistance, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.

I do notsee anything resembling Windows key in Control panel
The reference to the Windows key was telling you one way of getting to the control panel. (i.e. press the Windows key on your keyboard together with 'R', etc). If you've already got there via different route (such as via the Start button) you can ignore that bit altogether.

Thanks Chris for that I am struggling TBH x
Tamaris.... to find devices and printers.
Either press the windows key on your keyboard(bottom left keyboard) or left click on the windows icon( bottom left of screen in the task bar)
Left click on the little cog wheel that appears on the menu page.
Left click devises.
Left click printers and scanners.
Can I clarify that by"scan" you actually mean that you are scanning to a file on the computer and not just photocopying.

Can you try a photocopy and see what the quality is like.

If that is ok, then it is a setting when scanning.
