Nokia Lumia Wifi And Whatsapp

Will leaving WiFi switched on all the time affect my usage please? I have 15gb of broadband with bt, I only use the phone for txts &the occasional pic to send by WhatsApp. but have iPad. One daughter tells me to leave it switched off on the phone but other daughter says to leave it on all the time! Since leaving it switched on I seem to be getting nearer my limit quicker but that might be my imagination. When I do have it turned off I sometimes get a txt from second daughter saying ‘turn your WiFi on asI sometimes don’t receive pics from her, but I don’t want to be paying £1.80 per gb if it can be avoided. Any advice gratefully received as they both think they are right- of course :0( rosy

It'll increase battery usage, but not data from your mobile contract usage. If anything it should reduce that as it should be set to use WiFi first. Mind you, you may get encouraged to use the Net more.

I'm not sure you've been a answered correctly there tbh...
I found both the question and the answer a bit confusing. Are you concerned about your BT data usage, in which case the answer is irrelevant as he is referring to mobile data usage.
You say you have an Ipad, presumably you are surfing the net, and this uses data irrespective of downloading or uploading.

Fair comment. I took usage to mean mobile phone data usage. But the reality is that data will go over the normal cabled broadband instead.
So whilst it reduces mobile data usage it will increase cabled data usage. But unless you are watching films on your mobile I can't see it should be a large issue anyway. How much data are a few WhatsApp photos going to take ?
Your iPad will, of course, use data too, but then you can't get anything for nothing. It won't be affected by your mobile having it's WiFi on; and surely your router WiFi is permanently on anyway ?

Oh well I think I will just go with daughter who says leave it on then, thank you for taking the time Postdog,I never use the internet on the mobile, wouldn’t know how to switch it on anyway, computer illiterate that’s me, and as you said O.G how much can a few pics use up anyway. Not really concerned about useage just didn’t want bills mounting up unnecessarily, pay enough to BT anyway. Thank you both for replying, rosy
