I have a Hitachi 42" tv (42HXT12U) & the screen's just gone blank! - the sound's still working !!
I've tried switching it off & pulled the plug out to try and re-boot it but there's still no picture! ... Can anyone out there help please? Tia

That sounds like a component failure which, regrettably, you won't beable to fix yourself.

Your first point of contact should be Hitachi's official service partner in the UK, Argos Direct, on 0345 604 0105.

If the set's fairly new (under 6 years old) hassle them for a repair.

Otherwise you'll either have to seek out an independent repair service or bite the bullet and look for a new TV.

Curry's/PC World won't be the cheapest for repairs but they do offer a 'no fix / no fee' service:

Alternatively, of course, your telly might just have a bit of taste and be refusing to show the Eurovision Song Contest ;-)

Thank you ... It's nearly 3yrs old but looks like a new tv
For a telly of that age, you're legally entitled to a free repair or a replacement from the retailer when a failure occurs due to an 'inherent fault' (which means something that was wrong with the set when you purchased it, such as the use of poor quality components or poor workmanship).

Theoretically (because it's more than 6 months old) you need to be able to prove that the cause of the failure was, indeed, an 'inherent fault'. However simply challenging the retailer to offer any alternative reason as to why the set could have failed can sometimes suffice. HASSLE!
