Have you got the keyboard set to a different region?
Yes - you've accidentally selected US mode rather than UK - look for keyboard in settings.
If you're still stuck, Rebelboy, please tell us which version of Windows you're using. (The route into the relevant settings varies across different versions of Windows).
Press the windows key and space bar at the same time. .

Thanks everyone. I don't know how this happened other than Windows did a long winded upgrade last night. I still haven't solved the problem because I cant see an option to change. I'm using Windows 10.

Sorted. Thanks Togo. Took me a few goes before I worked out how to select UK layout! Thanks everyone for all their help and advice.
Shot Rebel. Ta.
Press and hold the Windows key.

Press the space bar. That will show the current keyboard setting and any others which are installed. (The one highlighted in blue is the current one).

Repeatedly pressing the space bar toggles through all of the available options. (You might have lots or just the UK and US ones, depending on how Windows is set up on your laptop).

Once you've got the UK setting highlighted in blue everything should be back to normal.

If you want to make sure that it can't happen again, remove the US keyboard (and any others that you'll never use, if there are any):

Oh, it looks like I've just wasted my time . . . except that my link explaining how to remove unwanted keyboards might still be relevant.

No mate. Today it resorted back to US mode! Will try removing the US version.
