Playing Mp4 Files On An Mp3 Player

I have downloaded some files onto my PC which are classed as MP4, because they are video files.

I only want to play them as sound files - will the play on a portable MP3 player, or do I need a specific MP4 player to play them on?

Surely they'll play on Windows Media Player? They won't play on an audio MP3 player.

As Diddlydo says, you can't play the audio content of M4 files on an MP3 player.

If you're using Windows 10, install this app to convert your MP4 files to MP3:

Otherwise use one of the multitude of online conversion services that are available, such as this one (although I've not tried it myself):

Free-To-Air TV channel 5Spike has been re-branded as Paramount Network and has launched today on Freeview and satellite. Paramount Network will commence broadcasting Series 7 of Suits from Tuesday 10th July at 9pm.

Apologies all, I was not clear -

I want to play the files on a portable player, so I need to know if I must get an MP4 Player, or if an MP3 Player will play the MP4 files purely as audio files.

^^^ I thought we'd answered that!

An MP3 WON'T play the audio content of MP4 files.

So you can either:
(a) buy an MP4 player ; or
(b) use your PC to convert the MP4 files to MP3 (as per my three suggestions above) and then load those converted files onto your MP3 player.
