Using the File drop down menu, click on New (don't use the New Document icon). You should then get a pop up with a choice of templates.
Right click on the 'Normal' (or sometimes 'Blank Document') template, and note its location. For example, my Word templates are in;
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Close the pop-up and on the menu bar go back to File > Open. Locate the folder where your templates are stored (as above) and open the Normal template.
This will now probably open your letter, but remember, this is a template, not a document. Delete all the text, and while you are there, adjust the margins etc to your liking (especially if you always end up changing the default margins). Click on Save.
You should have now saved the changes to the Normal (default) template. Close it, and then open a new document.
It should now be blank, with the margins set to how you like them
You can repeat the procedure, but this time put in, say, your address at the top right, this time click Save As, not Save, and type in Letterhead or something similar.
The next time you need to type a letter, using the File > New option, you can select the Letterhead template, which will have your address etc. already there.
