The first thing I thought was that maybe you, or someone using your computer, has visited rt.com at some point. When you do this the first time there is often a pop-up that says "rt.com wants to show you notifications: Allow/Block". Good afternoon dannyk13.

Is there an advert on the website that is prompting a pop-up?
Question Author
No. I just keep getting a pop-up bottom right with updates on news items.Haven't had one for an hour so maybe it has disappeared.
If it's not an ad then I can't help any better than the members in Technology.

Just googled it. It is a Russian/ English news channel broadcasting from Moscow.
Yes, Russia Today, mouthpiece of the Kremlin.

I'm certain that the pop-up is not being prompted by The AnswerBank. I shall move this thread into "Technology" to try and get some more attention.

What operating system and browser are you using?

Have you accidentally subscribed to RT and allowed them to send notifications of some sort?
Question Author
1.Google Chrome. Windows seven
2.No
Have you been to Salisbury recently?
Question Author
Er! no.

Anybody else getting these Russian pop-ups, and anybody know how to stop them?
The first thing I thought was that maybe you, or someone using your computer, has visited rt.com at some point. When you do this the first time there is often a pop-up that says "rt.com wants to show you notifications: Allow/Block". If that were so, then someone has hit "allow" -- either deliberately or accidentally, it doesn't matter.

In any case, try this:

1. Go to rt.com
2. If you do see the message above (it will be in top left) then hit "block".
3. If you don't see the message above, then at the left of the address bar there should be the word "secure" next to a padlock. Left-click on that.
4. This should open a drop-down menu, and about half-way down you'll see "Notifications". Next to that is another drop-down menu, that will probably say "allow". If so, select it, and choose "block" instead.
5. Reload the page.
6. Close the page and never visit it again.

Hopefully, that will solve the problem. But, if not, then I'm stumped.
