You'll probably need Android File Transfer (AFT) installed on your Mac (for free)

https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

Get AFT running on the Mac

Connect the phone and Mac with a cable

There's often an option on the phone to cnnect for data transfer - dp that.

Should be straightforward after that.

Good luck
A search on "Backup Android to Mac" gives loads of web sites and suggestions.

One example

Be aware:

"A onetime payment is required in order to use the full version of Dr Fone. However, a free trial is available, which allows potential customers to determine whether or not the software meets their needs before purchasing it, although it should be noted that the trial version has certain limitations."

Many of these 'solutions' ask for payment. Android File Transfer is free and is likely to remain so.

To back up your Android phone to a Mac computer, actually it's not that difficult. You can ask help from Android Assistant tool. After linking your Android phone to a Mac computer via usb cable, it will scan out all data on your Android phone. Then you can back up them with one-click.
