I was given iPad as a gift five years ago I joined Facebook and didn't use it at all,didn,t have a photo on it and forgot about it joined again recently to keep in contact with relatives abroad .problem is they can,t join my account . How do I cancel old account . As you can gather I,m not very savvy with technology!!!would be grateful for any help

You don't need to cancel your other account as you can have multiple accounts as long as you don't use the same email address.

go to FB click 'open an account' fill in your details making sure you use a different email from your previous account and follow instructions.

If you want to keep your old account go to settings/privacy and scroll down to make sure the boxes are ticked to allow others to find you and request friends ( how people can find and contact you)
