Any reason to get a kindle?

I want to get back to reading more. I loved a good old book however kindle or whatever seems practical for on holidays etc

Is the kindle app for apple just the same as buying a kindle?

I have a Kindle Fire 7. It's good for reading books and slips into a jacket pocket with ease. It also has internet access, but only from a hub with the internet access code.
I love it!
